Platinum #16 - Need for Speed : Shift

Platinum Difficulty Rating - 7/10

Despite this list being incredibly bland and seriously lacking in variety, not to mention very small, with just 29 trophies in the main list, there is still a challenge to be had here.

You can disect this Platinum into three distinct areas, including progression, levelling and driver badges.

The trophies relating to progression revolve around winning various events in the world tour mode, and though the NFS tour isn’t too hard, it is relatively time consuming.

The "NFS Live World Champion" trophy, awarded for winning the NFS Live World Championship, is the peak of the Tour mode, and you unlock this final event when you've achieved 250 stars from other races across the Tour mode. Earning this many stars does take time, and it will mean you do have to cover the vast majority of the other events, which means you'll be exploring every corner of the World Tour and it's 4 Tiers, which also award trophies for each tier you unlock between 1-4.

Levelling up also awards a steady stream of trophies, culminating with the "Driving Legend" trophy, awarded for reaching driver level 50, and although this requires a solid time commitment, it  is easily achievable through just progressing in the World Tour mode, and you should achieve level 50 way before you reach the NFS Live World Championship anyway.

As touched upon, there are also trophies awarded at various points in the levelling process for certain milestones, which is a nice spur-on incentive towards hitting level 50.

The trophies allocated to unlocking driver badges are the toughest part of this Platinum, with the "Epic Master" trophy, awarded for earning 20 epic badges, being the overall goal of the badge collection portion of the list.

There are a variety of categories within the game that carry badges, from mastering tracks, winning events and performing in race actions including drifting, overtaking and earning perfect starts and Epic badges require you to perform these a certain number of times in order to unlock the relevant badge.

There are a couple of things that make this tough, including the fact that there are only 27 categories in the game, meaning the choice of which badges to go for is fairly restricted, and you will end up being forced into certain categories that can turn out to be a touch grindy, and quite challenging in some places.

Some of the categories also just end up flat out unrealistic, with badges for earning every star in the World Tour mode, which is borderline impossible, and performing a perfect launch 250 times, which, although not exactly impossible, would take way longer than it's actually worth, so the trophy ends up dictating which badges you need to aim for, to a slight extent.

Although this is technically a purely Single Player Platinum, some of the badges do require you to venture online, and are much more plausible options than some of the categories listed above, so it may be wise to consider branching into Multiplayer portion of the game to hunt out a couple of Epic badges too.

The badges are dedicated to over half of the games whole trophy list, with trophies awarded for hitting the Bronze, Silver, Gold and Epic badges of each category at an accumulation of 5, 10, 15 and 20 badges in total, which equates to a total of 16 trophies, so there's a fairly big focus on these badges. You can obtain most of them through naturally progressing in the World Tour mode, but you will still have venture into other areas of the game for some of them, including the online portion.

Even though you can earn most of the trophies in this list through just playing out the World Tour mode, there is still a solid challenge to be had from it. Beating the World Tour takes time and dedication, with some latter events being fairly challenging, but the Epic badges are where this games true challenge lies, with a number of badges that will test your driving skills considerably.

Even then, this is still a slow burner, clocking in at around 50-60 hours total in order to Platinum the game.
