Platinum #15 - Grand Theft Auto IV

Platinum Difficulty Rating - 10/10
The single player portion of the game practically revolves around "The Key to the City" trophy, for attaining 100% game completion, and will require an estimation of anything around 30-50 hours.

The "Endangered Species" trophy, for collecting every hidden package in the game, which actually requires you to seek out and kill 200 pigeons scattered across the city is probably the pick of the 100% requirements. Quite a big task when you also take into account other nuances that come with it, including the tendency to attract police for using gunfire in public, and the need to physically keep track of such a high number.

However, there are a couple of other tricky requirements for the 100% completion stat, which includes the "Manhunt" trophy, awarded for completing the Most Wanted side mission, where you need to kill a total of 30 criminals across all 3 islands.

The "You got the Message" trophy, awarded for delivering all 30 cars ordered through text message, requires you to deliver a range of vehicles to Brucie scattered around the city. This can take a considerable amount of time, given the fact that you have to actively scout for the various cars, and the only aid you're given is through a solitary picture, which can make things seem like a very drawn out scavenger hunt at times.

The "Dare Devil" trophy, awarded for successfully performing all 50 of the games stunt jumps across the city, is self explanatory, and even though most of the jumps are easy enough, there are some of them which will require multiple attempts to get right, and are probably best done using a motorbike.

Beating the main story missions also goes towards the 100% requirements, which rewards trophies at certain key points in the story, but the "Liberty City Minute" trophy, for finishing the story in less than 30 hours, means you should probably prioritise your requirements, and even though 30 hours is still quite a generous time, expect to replay the entire story again if you somehow miss the cut first time around.

The Multiplayer portion throws up the greater difficulties in this Platinum, including "Wanted", awarded for achieving the highest rank in Multiplayer, which will set you back a good 50+ hours alone, and is most definitely the hardest trophy in this entire list.

The amount of money required for the top rank is $5,000,000, and the secret of fast levelling (Still not terribly quick, but it's the quickest the game offers) requires you to exclusively play Hangman's NOOSE, which pays out at around $5,000 per play. Unless you have a well co-ordinated team of players, your progress will suffer and time will be wasted thanks to general nuances within the game mode, including a lack of co-operation from team-mates and baffling computer AI.

It can be a seriously frustrating experience that you will most likely witness way too much of on the way towards rank 10, and can add hours onto the Platinum completion time. The best way to approach the challenge is to make sure you can manage to get a consistent group of like minded players who will help you out.

Above all else, it is extremely monotonous and repetitive, and the levelling aspect is so grindy, it does make it hard to enjoy the game. The other game modes just simply don't grant enough wealth to be worth playing, especially in the context of levelling and striving for trophies, and the added variety of other modes will just prolong the overall completion time for the whole list, so it's easier to persist with Hangman's NOOSE and finish quicker.

On the subject of co-ordination, the "Fly The Co-op" trophy, for completing Deal Breaker, Hangmans NOOSE and Bomb Da Base II in time, will require tons of it, and only the perfect amount of co-ordination and teamwork will see you hit the time requirements needed for this trophy, and even then, the times are still solid enough to present a strong challenge to most players, even the highest skilled.

The "Auf Wiedersehen Petrovic" trophy, for winning in all variations for Multiplayer games, means you'll not only have to win in all 8 standard game modes, but you also need to win 50 different race variants, which will easy stack up another 15-20 hours on top of the overall completion time, and that doesn't even consider any races you might lose, and therefore, have to repeat until you win.

There are also reports of the trophy being sightly glitched, meaning certain game modes may have to be replayed more than a few times before they register correctly on the game stats screen.

The difficulties regarding the Multiplayer are where this games true difficulty lies, especially with the levelling aspect, but the single player is still a tough journey in it's own right, even more so with the amount of requirements needed for 100% completion. Collectively, you're looking at a Platinum estimation of anywhere between 100-200 hours, for one of the toughest Platinums the Playstation catalogue can offer.
